Beginner and Intermediate Classes

Do you want to learn one of our oldest indigenous languages: South African Sign Language?

Our new beginners and intermediate classes are starting in January 2010

Please could you let us know if you are interested in joining the class as soon as possible?  We encourage you to register early as the course is filling up rapidly.  SLED is the only ETDP accredited training organisation in South Africa.

There are 21 weekly lessons.  Each lesson is formally structured with South African Sign Language videos, games and activities used to make learning easy and enjoyable.  The lessons are taught by a choice selection of experienced Deaf teachers and students are expected to complete assignments during the week.  These assignments will reinforce the lesson and introduce new topics.  Students are given a manual and a 2 hour long SASL DVD/video to support their learning.  Secure parking is available.

The course content for SASL Stage 1 includes:

  • SASL reception and production
  • Use of Non-Manual Features
  • Manipulation of Placement and Location
  • Simple Classifiers including use of plurals
  • Physical description and Temporal aspects
  • SASL Structure including sentence and question construction
  • Finger spelling
  • Formal assessment

Total SASL Course Stage 1 Fees (including learning materials) – R2500.00
Total Assessment Fees (optional) – R1000.00
Learners who are assessed and achieve competency will receive the unit standards associated with the course, as recognized by the ETDP Seta.

  • if you pay in full at least one month prior to the start of the course
